Wieman, Stanford University<\/h3>\n<h4>Taking a scientific approach to science education<\/h4>\n<p>Guided by experimental tests of theory and practice, science has advanced rapidly in the past 500 years.\u00a0 Guided primarily by tradition and dogma, science education has remained largely medieval.\u00a0 Recent research on how people learn, combined with rigorous experiments in university science classrooms, is now revealing much more effective ways to teach and evaluate learning than is currently used in most science classes.\u00a0 I will discuss these results and what they tell us about principles of learning and their effective implementation in university classrooms.\u00a0 This research is setting the stage for a new approach to teaching that can provide the relevant and effective science education for all students that is needed for the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nov 14, 2023 @ 4:00pm Central in Central Library Community Room; reception 5:00 pm, Stevenson Center courtyard<br \/>\nContact Reina Beach (reina.beach@vanderbilt.edu) for Zoom link to attend virtually.<\/p>\n<p>Host: J.
