Gates is a first-year PhD student primarily interested in ethics, philosophy of art, and Buddhist philosophy. He is especially interested in questions about the self, as well as ways in which narrative fiction and film can help shed light on common philosophical debates. He is a Russel G. Hamilton Scholar and a member of the Professionalization Committee in the PGSA.
