Brian Soucek, Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis, will be visiting Vanderbilt to lecture on the topic of “Institutional NON-Neutrality” on Thursday, October 1st (6PM, Wilson 126).
A constitutional law scholar and philosopher of art, Professor Soucek’s work ranges from equality and free speech law, to academic freedom, to topics at the intersection of law and aesthetics. He is a member of The American Association of University Professors’ (AAUP) “Committee A” on Academic Freedom and Tenure, recently chaired the University of California’s system-wide Committee on Academic Freedom, was a fellow with UC’s National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement, led the Association of American Law Schools’ Section on Law and the Humanities, and served a three-year term as trustee of the American Society for Aesthetics.
Professor Soucek will be visiting campus as a guest of the Vanderbilt chapter of the AAUP. The talk is hosted by the Department of English and is co-sponsored by a broad range of departments and programs on campus. Academic freedom and “institutional neutrality” are topics of great interest to everyone in higher education right now, and we very much hope that many of you will be able to join us for the talk.
