Autism Spectrum Disorders and Depression
Katherine Gotham, Ph.D.
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Depression is a leading source of clinical impairment in adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Gotham uses behavioral and psychophysiological methods to identify shared mechanisms across ASD and depression, and to come to understand pathways along which affect dysregulation and depressed mood develop within ASD. In line with the VKC mission to improve quality of life in individuals with intellectual and developmental disorders, her ultimate goal is to translate mechanistic research to assessment and treatment protocols that promote emotional health across the lifespan in ASD.
