At this science fair-type event, faculty members Sean McAfee, Alice Mark, Sam Sehayek, and Dan Margalit – along with special guests Lily Margalit and Kathleen Margalit – led discussions on pi, infinity, graph theory, symmetry, and the golden mean. It was a beautiful day with excellent attendance. Budding mathematicians of all ages encountered deep mathematics by drawing trees, enacting Zeno’s paradox, computing circumferences, and playing croquet on a graph. Thanks to everyone for participating in this great event!<\/p>\n
<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1790\" src=\"https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2026\/03\/IMG_2322-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2026\/03\/IMG_2322-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2026\/03\/IMG_2322-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2026\/03\/IMG_2322-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2026\/03\/IMG_2322-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2026\/03\/IMG_2322-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Along with the Public Engagement team at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens, and with the generous support of the Simons Foundation, the Department of Mathematics organized a Pi day event on (of course) March 14 at Cheekwood Gardens.
