Department of Mathematics Hosts Math Competition
On April 4th, the Department of Mathematics hosted over 100 students and volunteers in Garland Hall for the 2nd annual Tennessee Math Tournament. The all-day event drew competitors from junior high and high schools around the state to solve challenging math problems in individual and team rounds. The culmination of the event was a keynote address from Dan Margalit followed by an award ceremony (with the youngest competitor, a 6th grade student, winning the individual round!) The competition was co-organized by the Department of Mathematics and the Tennessee Math Coalition, a student-led nonprofit with the goal of organizing math competitions and sharing resources across the state.
