Latino and Latino Studies offers a number of Immersion Opportunities, including internship opportunities in Nashville's growing Latinx community, service-learning courses, independent research options, and study abroad options. Information and Technology

Position Description:  The primary responsibilities of the Information and Technology role are to identify and resolve technology needs of the organization including but not limited to creating google forms, digitizing credit card purchase tracking, and scheduling a 3 hour window of time at Conexión Américas every two weeks to make appointments with staff members regarding any issues they are having with computers and/or ipads used for organizational purposes. The person in this role must support the organization in the maintenance of hardware, software and other systems. They must troubleshoot issues with equipment like printers, computers and servers. They run software updates backups when requested.

This role will be supervised by Conexión Américas Director of Marketing and Development KB Holzer. 

Requirements (Education and Experience):

●  Bilingualism in Spanish preferred, not required

●  Ability to work with diverse populations

●  Demonstrated ability and experience working in the field of information and technology.

●  Must pass background check

●  Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment

●  Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and Google Suite

●  Demonstrated appreciation for Latino culture and families, as well as other immigrant and refugee groups, required.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistant

Position Description: VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) created the VITA program to provide free tax preparation for low-income and at-risk taxpayers using community partners and volunteers. Each year, Conexión Américas staff and volunteers help hundreds of Spnaish speaking individuals and families prepare their taxes. We are the only bilingual VITA site in Nashville.
The primary responsibilities of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant role include but are not li​mited to greeting new program participants, screening and conducting intake, and preparing taxes.

This role will be supervised by Conexión Américas Senior Director of Economic Integration Martha Silva. 

Requirements (Education and Experience):

●  Native level bilingualism in Spanish required.

●  Ability to work with diverse populations

●  Completion of the IRS Certification test. The deadline to get certified is January 28th 2020

●  Must pass background check

●  Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment

●  Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and Google Suite

●  Demonstrated appreciation for Latino culture and families, as well as other immigrant and  refugee groups, required.

Youth Development

Position Description: Conexión Américas works with the Nashville After School Zone Alliance to support middles schoolers throughout the Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) System. We also facilitate the Escalera College and Career Readiness program to 9-12 graders at 4 different MNPS high schools. The primary responsibilities of the Youth Development role include but are not li​mited to supporting the development of activities and curriculum for these middle and high school programs, leading and facilitating activities with students, preparing materials for programming, and attending field trips and school events.

This role will be supervised by Conexión Américas Associate Director of Education Program Maria Paula Zapata. 

Requirements (Education and Experience):

●  Advanced level bilingualism in Spanish required.

●  Ability to work with diverse populations

●  Experience working with middle and/or high school aged students preferred

●  Must pass background check.

●  Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment

●  Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

●  Demonstrated appreciation for Latino culture and families, as well as other immigrant and  refugee groups, required.

Social Work and Community Connections

Position Description: The primary responsibilities of the Social Work and Community Connections role include but are not li​mited to supporting the front desk staff at Casa Azafran to greet the general public and address the needs of people who are looking for resources, conduct intake, answer Casa Azafran general public phone calls, develop resource guides for program participants who need to be referred out and assisting with the Protecting our Families program to help community members develop a plan of action if detained or deported.
This role will be supervised by Senior Director of Economic Integration Martha Silva.

●  Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

●  Demonstrated appreciation for Latino culture and families, as well as other immigrant and  refugee groups, required.

Community Outreach

Position Description: The primary responsibilities of the Community Outreach role include but are not li​mited to supporting and attending community events that Conexión Américas hosts and or sponsors, attend monthly Mexican and Colombian Consulate events to educate community members about Conexión Américas programs, visit local businesses and churches to advertise Conexión Américas programming and events, develop a resource guide of Latinx owned businesses in Nashville, and develop new strategies for engaging community members in programs.

This role will be supervised by Director of Marketing and Development KB Holzer.
