African and African American Art
Rebecca VanDiver (Harvard College, A.B.; and Duke University, M.A. Ph.D) teaches courses on Modern/Contemporary African American art, the history of women artists, and contemporary African art and visual culture. Her research focuses on 20th century Black women artists and more recently the use of ephemeral print in African American Art. She is the author of Designing a New Tradition: Loïs Mailou Jones and the Aesthetics of Blackness (Penn State University Press, 2020). She is affiliated faculty with the Department African American and Diaspora Studies as well as the Program in American Studies.
