I have been a graduate student at Vanderbilt since Fall 2010, and I finished my M.A. in Spring 2012. My research focused on notebook editions and how they affect the concept of a work, particularly concerning Nietzsche’s Hefte and Bertolt Brecht’s Notizbücher. As a Ph.D. candidate, I’ve become increasingly excited about the topic of editions. To deepen my understanding of editions theory and practice, I will be spending the 2013-14 academic year studying Editionswissenschaft at the Freie Universität Berlin. I plan to write my dissertation on the dynamic and ever-changing role of the editor in German literature, specifically with regard to projects on fragmented works by authors from the 19th and 20th centuries.
