He lives in the German floor of McTyeire International House and serve as McTyeire&#8217;s current president. The interview was conducted by Professor Silke Schade, Director of Undergraduate Studies for German Studies at Vanderbilt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is something interesting about you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m from Nebraska and have five younger siblings.\u00a0 In my free time, I\u2019ve been working on a memoir \u2013 autobiography project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When did you start studying German?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In my freshman year of high school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you like most about studying German?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was initially really drawn to the structure of the language.\u00a0 The more I\u2019ve gotten into it, I\u2019ve been getting into the history as well.\u00a0\u00a0 In German class, we get an idea of what it\u2019s like to be a German citizen looking back on history.\u00a0 That has helped me feel more connected to the language and the culture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you like about McTyeire International House?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking German in McTyeire really heightens the skills I learned in class.\u00a0 We have different settings for conversation:\u00a0 we talk over dinner, we do Study Breaks, and we talk casually.\u00a0 All those different settings hone different skills.\u00a0 I also love meeting people who speak other languages.\u00a0 As president of McTyeire, I lead the dorm council and help organize different cultural events like international dessert night!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your future plans? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m planning to study abroad for a year in Freiburg.\u00a0 I want to be fully immersed in the language and take classes in German.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to achieve fluency in German so I can do graduate school in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lee Cameron, BA &#8217;24, is a major in Statistics and Computer Science.
