French 2021 Graduate Nathan Dize recently published a translation of the Haitian novel  I Am Alive by Kettly Mars with the University of Virginia Press.

On Nov. 11th the book was featured on NPR’s “Reading List for Haiti” during All Things Considered. Award-winning author Myriam J.A. Chancy (and former VU English Professor) says “So to me, the book’s premise speaks to the current context of Haiti’s fissured political foundation, you know, the breakdown of the social fabric. And the specter of cholera is a contemporary consequence of failed international intervention, which we see resurging right now.”
