German Language Placement
Students with some experience in German should complete Vanderbilt's language placement test and consult the director of undergraduate studies or director of advising in German studies for placement. If you have not studied German, register for GER 1101.
After taking the placement test, you may also use the table below to determine which course to take.
Students may not earn credit for an introductory language course if they previously have earned credit for a higher-level course taught in that same language. Students who have earned Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credit in a foreign language will forfeit the test credit if they complete a lower-level course taught in that same language.

Russian Language Placement
Students with some experience in Russian should consult with the director of undergraduate studies or the director of advising in Russian studies for placement.
Students may not earn credit for an introductory language course if they previously have earned credit for a higher-level course taught in that same language. In addition, students may not earn credit for an intermediate-level language course if they previously have earned credit for a higher-level course taught in that same language.
Students who have earned Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credit in a foreign language will forfeit the test credit if they complete a lower-level course taught in that same language.
