PhD student Emilka Jansen receives Vanderbilt Award for Doctoral Discovery

PhD student Emilka Jansen has been awarded the Vanderbilt Award for Doctoral Discovery. Granted by the Graduate School, Vanderbilt Awards for Doctoral Discovery (VADD) are designed to help graduate students with outstanding potential to accelerate progress on their research, proceed to candidacy, and/or complete their dissertation research in a timely manner. Awarded funding can be used for research expenses related to the doctoral thesis, other advanced research projects, or scholarly activities that significantly advance professional development. The VADD is granted on a competitive basis.

Emilka’s research interests include the intersections of Victorian and modern literature with an emphasis on visual and material culture, ecocriticism, and genre theory, particularly as they pertain to the history of the novel and lyric theory. Her work strives for an interdisciplinary approach that spans art, literature, and science. She received a BA in English and Art History from Skidmore College.
