Jesse McCarthy
Postdoctoral Researcher
I am a historian and postdoctoral scholar at Vanderbilt University, specializing in innovative humanities education and pedagogy. I earned my Ph.D. in History from Vanderbilt in 2023, focusing on print culture and conspiracies in the Elizabethan succession crisis.
As an educator, I am committed to fostering interdisciplinary connections and enhancing the first-year experience through innovative course design and collaborative teaching methods. I bring a wide depth of teaching and curriculum design experience across Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music, Classics and Mediterranean Studies, and the History department to the College of Arts and Science Core Curriculum.
My current work centers on designing student-centered, interdisciplinary courses that bridge humanities disciplines. I am actively shaping Vanderbilt's new core curriculum, developing courses on Witchcraft and the Supernatural for the sophomore Exploratory Core, as well as contributing to the design and teaching of the freshman core classes "Being Human" and "Science, Technology, and Values."
