I am a historian of modern American history, with a specialization in the history of higher education. My work focuses on the history of the disciplines, and particularly of the humanities, in the twentieth century. My research has been supported by the Social Science Research Council, the Fulbright Program, and the Deutscher Pädagogischer Austauschdienst, among others. I regularly offer classes on American intellectual and cultural history, the history of policymaking in the United States, and on politics and popular culture. I am currently the Managing Editor of the journal Modern Intellectual History.
