Paul Stob Receives NCA’s Winans-Wichelns Award

Posted by on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in News & Events.

Professor Paul Stob has been named the recipient of the National Communication Associations’ James A. Winas – Herbert A. Wilchelns Memorial Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Rhetoric and Public Address. The award honors scholarship that has been published by NCA members in the previous year. Dr. Stob received the award for his book, Intellectual Populism: Democracy, Inquiry, and the People published by Michigan State University Press in 2020. Stob’s book responds to denunciations of populism as undemocratic and anti-intellectual by arguing that populism has contributed to a distinct and democratic intellectual tradition in which ordinary people assume leading roles in the pursuit of knowledge.

Recipients will be honored during the upcoming NCA 107th Annual Convention. The Presidential Address and Awards Presentation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA, and also will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.
