Vanderbilt Debate Team Competing at United States Universities Debating Championship

Posted by on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 in Debate News.

This weekend, the Vanderbilt Debate Team will be competing at the United States Universities Debating Championship. Though the competition is normally held in April, the 2020 tournament was cancelled and rescheduled for the fall due to COVID-19. All students who were eligible to compete in April 2020 are still eligible for this rescheduled championship tournament.

We were happy that our seniors from last year, Erich Remiker and Will Newell, were able and willing to attend this tournament, so they could have a proper last event of their career. They have been the backbone of the team since they began their careers here at Vanderbilt.

Out of almost 150 teams and roughly 300 competitors, Erich and Will were named the 9th and 10th speakers in the nation. What an outstanding job! They will continue their journey tomorrow when they compete in elimination rounds as the 4th seed out of 32 teams.

Wish them luck! More updates to come.
