{"id":556,"date":"2022-08-22T17:34:39","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T17:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-as.vanderbilt.edu\/communication-studies\/?p=43"},"modified":"2026-03-30T16:31:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T16:31:30","slug":"bohyeong-kim-named-deans-faculty-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/communication-studies\/2022\/08\/22\/bohyeong-kim-named-deans-faculty-fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"Bohyeong Kim named Dean\u2019s Faculty Fellow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/communication-studies\/bio\/bohyeong-kim\/\">Bohyeong Kim<\/a>, assistant professor of communication studies,\u00a0has been named a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/faculty\/deans-faculty-fellows.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dean\u2019s Faculty Fellow<\/a>\u00a0by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/as.vanderbilt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vanderbilt College of Arts\u00a0and\u00a0Science<\/a>. The Dean\u2019s Faculty Fellows Program launched in 2018 to support untenured faculty in their research, scholarship, and creative expression. Faculty are selected because of their scholarly accomplishments and the promise they show to make an impact in their respective fields. Kim will hold the title for two years.<\/p>\n<p>Kim is currently completing a book entitled <em>Critically Capitalist: The Spirit of Asset Capitalism in South Korea<\/em>, which presents an ethnography of South Korea\u2019s aspiring asset owners to theorize \u201ccritical capitalism\u201d as a simultaneous critique and legitimation of capitalism. Her work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as\u00a0<em>Cultural Studies<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Television &amp; New Media, Media<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Culture &amp; Society<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>International Journal of Communication<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Kim has also been awarded a Dean\u2019s Research Studio grant, which allows her to bring to campus two scholars from the field to engage her work.
