Nadejda Webb: Attempted Protest Poster

Posted by on Saturday, February 26, 2022 in Student Projects.

My project is an attempt at creating a protest poster. I first researched the genre and found the works of Glenn Ligon, Emory Douglass and Beatriz Aurora particularly appealing. I then specified what issue I wanted to tackle and began outlining possibilities. In choosing to address the issue of police brutality against Native Peoples, I found myself confronted with the issues of audience and communication: how does one ensure understanding?

Tools: I used tracing paper, a scanner and Adobe Photoshop to digitize my first image (the Nazi pig). I then used a DSLR camera to photograph a fellow student, and again digitized these images in Adobe Photoshop. The image of the White House comes from a twenty dollar bill, which was also scanned and digitized.
