Supported by a grant from Vanderbilt’s Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation, Prof. James Zainaldin organized the colloquium, building on the success of a similar workshop that he organized in the department in fall 2024. Prof. Zainaldin says, “My inspiration for the workshop is a book I’m writing with Jon Master on Seneca’s Consolation to Marcia for Cambridge University Press. We found last year’s workshop so helpful that we decided to do it again!” This year’s colloquium allowed scholars to exchange forthcoming work, discuss principles and best practices in text-editing and commentary-writing, and above all to engage in close, joint study of a range of Latin texts from antiquity to the Renaissance. Thanks to Emory University (Prof. Jonathan Master), University of Oklahoma (Prof. Ben Watson), and the Thesaurus linguae Latinae (Dr. Adam Trettel) for valuable co-sponsorship of this event.
