The event will bring together experts on policy impact evaluation to advance knowledge in the field, promote impact evaluation methodologies, increase research capacities, and connect research and policy in the region. The meeting is part of the Research Institute for Development Growth and Economics\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ridge.org.uy\/2023-may-forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2023 RIDGE May Forum<\/a>.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1690 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/vu-cas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2023\/05\/22135203\/IEN_Identify-600x589-1-300x295.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/vu-cas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2023\/05\/22135203\/IEN_Identify-600x589-1-300x295.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/vu-cas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2023\/05\/22135203\/IEN_Identify-600x589-1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.vanderbilt.edu\/bio\/felipe-barrera-osorio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Felipe Barrera-Osorio<\/a>, associate professor of leadership, policy, and organizations, is organizing the meeting. He has served on IEN\u2019s executive committee since 2007.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany Latin American countries are implementing policies intended to benefit society as a whole\u2014in particular the poor, the unemployed, and other vulnerable groups. Programs under these policies address a wide range of concerns, including reducing violence and increasing access to quality water, housing for the poor, and quality education, to name a few. Policymakers and taxpayers need to know whether these programs are providing the intended benefits,\u201d Barrera-Osorio said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScholars working in impact evaluation are addressing a serious need in low- and middle-income countries for rigorous policy assessments to improve and strengthen support for programs that benefit targeted groups,\u201d Barrera-Osorio continued. \u201cWe hope this meeting and similar activities continue to bridge the gap between evaluation techniques and their application in Latin America.
