The Vanderbilt University Department of Art announces multidisciplinary artist Jessica Houston as the next visiting artist in the Studio VU Lecture Series 2024-2025 season in April 2025.<\/h4>\n

Jessica Houston’s lecture “..no footprints, even.<\/em>” will be presented on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 4:10pm via ZOOM. This lecture is a part of Houston’s campus visit which includes a solo exhibition at the Vanderbilt University Museum of Art (also located in Cohen Memorial Hall). \u00a0The exhibition also titled “…no footprints, even.” will be on view from January 30 – May 11, 2025 with a reception scheduled for the beginning of February (event details below).<\/p>\n

Houston’s hybrid practice spans photography, oral histories, painting and video to explore climate change in the polar regions. She has collaborated with communities in Resolute Ba and Pong Inlet, Nunavut since 2008 when she was invited UK organization Cape Farewell on an Arctic expedition. Her research based practice invites reflection on the deep time of ice and the interconnection between human and natural systems. Celebrating both beauty and complexities of the polar regions, her work offers a meditative reminder of humanity’s place within the vast geological and ecological cycles of the Earth.<\/p>\n

Houston\u2019s works are funded by The Canada Council for the Arts, National Geographic, Parks Canada, and are in the collections of The Montr\u00e9al Museum of Fine Arts, The National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec; Biblioth\u00e8que et Archives nationales du Qu\u00e9bec (BAnQ), Montr\u00e9al, Qu\u00e9bec; Bank of Montr\u00e9al, Toronto; The Canada Council Art Bank; and the Consulate General of Monaco. Select solo and group exhibitions include: \u2026no footprints, even.<\/em> at the Vanderbilt University Museum of Art, Nashville, TN, USA (2025); Beyond Her Horizons<\/em> at The Royal Canadian Geographical Society in Ottawa (2024); Territoires sous observation<\/em>, Museo de Arts de Quer\u00e9taro, M\u00e9xico (2023); Terra Nova<\/em>, CREA Gallery, Venice, Italy (2022); and Ecologies: A Song For Our Planet<\/em>, Montr\u00e9al Museum of Fine Arts, Montr\u00e9al, Canada (2021). Houston has created site-specific works for the New Jersey MOCA, Asbury Park, New Jersey; the Castello di Corigliano, Puglia, Italy; Governors Island, NY, NY; The Albany Airport, Albany, NY and The Lewis H. Latimer House Museum, Flushing, NY. She has been invited to the Changing Climate Residency at The Santa Fe Art Institute; The Albers Foundation Residency; CAMAC Centre for Art, Science and Technology in France; and the Skagastr\u00f6nd Residency in Iceland.<\/p>\n
