Temporary Mac Mail Account Settings Change

ITS has changed some account settings in anticipation of the Exchange Email Server upgrade set to occur soon.  These setting changes have affected use of Apple's Mail, iCal, and Address Book applications, but below shows a way to get all of these applications working correctly.  This is only a  TEMPORARY  fix.  Once ITS has migrated users to the new email servers (Summer of 2012) all Mac Mail, iCal, and Address Book users will have to revert these settings back to the previous settings. You will receive an email from ITS before the migration occurs. 

To make these changes to Mac Mail, please do the following:

  1. Open your Mail application.
  2. Go to Mail -> Preferences…

  3. Select the Accounts tab.

  4. Make sure your Vanderbilt Exchange account is selected.  Under the Account Information tab, change theInternal Server and External Server from email.vanderbilt.edu to legacy.vanderbilt.edu.***

  5. Close the Window.  You should be prompted to save your changes.  Restart your email client and allow time for email to sync.

To make these changes to iCal, please do the following:

  1. Open your iCal application.
  2. Go to iCal -> Preferences…

  3. Select the Accounts tab.

  4. Make sure your Vanderbilt Exchange account is selected.  Under the Server Settings tab, change the Internal Server and External Server from email.vanderbilt.edu to legacy.vanderbilt.edu.***

  5. Close the Window.  You should be prompted to save your changes.  Restart your iCal application and allow time for calendar items to sync.

To make these changes to Address Book, please do the following:

  1. Open your Address Book application. 
  2. Go to Address Book -> Preferences…

  3. Select the Accounts tab.

  4. Make sure your Vanderbilt Exchange account is selected.  Under the Server Settings tab, change the Internal Server and External Server from email.vanderbilt.edu to legacy.vanderbilt.edu.***

  5. Close the Window.  You should be prompted to save your changes.  Restart your Address Book application and allow time for contact items to sync.

***This is a reminder that this is only a TEMPORARY fix.  Once ITS has migrated users to the new email servers, all Mac Mail, iCal, and Address Book users will have to revert the Internal and External Servers back to email.vanderbilt.edu from legacy.vanderbilt.edu.
