Major in Russian

The Major in Russian is a language, literature, and culture major. It requires a minimum of 27 hours of course work beginning after 102. Required courses are 203-204, 223-224, and 9 hours of courses in English offered by the Russian program. Direct credit is given for courses taken with CIEE program in Russia and/or for Maymester in St. Petersburg. Courses taken in Russia or the United States with other schools or programs may be transferred and counted toward major subject to the approval by the Department.

Major in Russian and European Studies

Students may elect this interdisciplinary major consisting of 39 hours of course work, as follows:

  1. At least 18 hours in Russian language, literature, and culture, including 12 hours of Russian language beyond first year and 6 hours selected from the courses in English offered by the Russian program.
  2. At least 12 hours in European Studies, history, and political science.
  3. At least 9 hours of approved electives in the advanced Russian language, political science, and history. Courses taken in Russia or elsewhere will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
