Major in Russian

The Major in Russian is a language, literature, and culture major. It requires a minimum of 27 hours of course work beginning after 102. Required courses are 203-204, 223-224, and 9 hours of courses in English offered by the Russian program. Hours for study in Russia or in an American summer program may count toward a major, subject to approval of the director of undergraduate studies for Russian. Direct credit is given for courses taken with CIEE program in Russia and/or for Maymester in St. Petersburg. 


Major in Russian and European Studies

Students may elect this interdisciplinary major consisting of 39 hours of course work, as follows:

  1. At least 18 hours in Russian language, literature, and culture, including 12 hours of Russian language beyond first year and 6 hours selected from the courses in English offered by the Russian program.
  2. At least 12 hours in European Studies, history, and political science.
  3. At least 9 hours of approved electives in the advanced Russian language, political science, and history. Courses taken in Russia or elsewhere will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
