Dean McIntireRussell McIntire is Associate Dean for Graduate Programs. His primary responsibilities include Arts & Science Graduate Programs, graduate aid budgets and expenditures, undergraduate Admissions, Honor Scholarships, the College Scholars Program, departmental honors programs, and honor scholarship endowments.

As a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy, he currently teaches “Introduction to Medical Ethics” and has taught a freshman seminar, “Ethics of Life and Death,” and Introduction to Philosophy courses. His research focus is applied medical ethics, especially the patient-physician relationship.

He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Vanderbilt in 1972 and returned to Vanderbilt in 1988 from Lambuth College where he was Professor of Philosophy and Associate Dean of the College. While there he designed a curriculum in medical ethics for family practice residents and served as Clinical Instructor of Medical Ethics in the department of Family Medicine, University of Tennessee, Memphis—Health Science Center.
