2013-14 AICE Visiting Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies and Political Science
Adi Portughies spent the 2013-2014 academic year at Vanderbilt University as an AICE Visiting Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies and Political Science.
Dr. Portughies’s research focuses on Israeli political history and collective memory. He completed his Ph.D. in 2008 at the Department for Jewish History at Bar Ilan University, with a dissertation on Israel’s political left during the years 1967-1982.
Dr. Portughies was a Schusterman Postdoctoral Fellow at New York University for the 2008-2009 academic year and was given the Adler Hebrew Dissertation Translation Award. He has taught at Ben Gurion University and Bar Ilan University.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Portughies is involved in civic affairs in the Negev desert region of Southern Israel.
Dr. Portughies came to Vanderbilt with the support of the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise’s Visiting Israeli Professor Program.
