This course will consider historical, sociological and cultural perspectives on women in Israeli society from 1950-present. Topics addressed include

  • Gender and national identity
  • Images of the “new Hebrew woman”
  • Experiences of ethnic and national minorities (Russian, Ethiopian, Palestinian)
  • The myth of gender equality
  • Impact of militarism and war
